Mathematics teaches children how to make sense of the world through developing an understanding of Mathematical skills and concepts. It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and patterns in number, measures, geometry, statistics, ratio and algebra in their everyday lives.

At Edale Rise, we strive to promote curiosity in the number system and encourage cross-curricular learning. Children are keen to learn a range of calculation strategies, allowing them to tackle complex mathematical problems and develop their reasoning skills. Lessons are taught in a practical context and relevance to real life is placed as a high priority. We use the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach to Mathematics to enable children to develop a good understanding of mathematical concepts.

We teach Mathematics daily, using the 2014 National Curriculum and opportunities for Mathematics in the Foundation Stage are incorporated into the child's day, using the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). In addition to the daily maths lesson, we teach daily basic skills to promote rapid recall of number facts, times tables and the 'non-negotiables' for each year group.
